The World Cup 2018 in Russia might have started looking like a World Cup of the Underdogs at first but things have changed in the past couple of weeks. In the end only the deserving teams have progressed into the the Round of 16 and despite some major hiccups, so did Argentina. Maybe the least favourite to progress after their disappointing first 2 games, luck has favoured Argentina to to prgress by a dramatic late goal of Marcos Rojo against Nigeria. Argentina won 2-1 along with a goal of Lionel Messi in the scoresheet.

Perhaps the biggest shock in this world cup which is the main reason to call this World Cup a dramatic one is the exit of the defending Champions Germany. Which came after the German pulled of a memorable win against Sweden. After being 1-0 down, the champions came back strong in the second half, leveling the score by a goal from Marco Reus and finally winnng it with a legendary final shot of the
game free kick goal by Toni Kroos. Best moment of the world cup so far was spoiled by their shocking defeat to South Korea on their final game of the group stages. The Champions lost the game 2-0 even after having 90% of the posessions and 16 shots at Goal. And that resulted Germany; the fourth Champion team after 1998 to exit in the group stages. Before this france in 2002, Italy in 2010 and Spain in 2014, all champions of the former World Cup exited from group stages. It is starting to be called the CURSE OF THE CHAMPIONS now a days and the only team to avoid this curse was Brazil who were champions in 2002 and reached quarter final of the world cup 2006.

Talking about Brazil, The Selecaos have maintained their 6 th World Cup Winning mission Dominant with their strong come backs in their last 2 group games. They Beat Costa Rica 2-0 after scoring 2 goals in the last 6 minutes of the game.
Coutinho scored on 89 th minute followed by Neymar on 93 rd.

They beat Serbia 2-0 in their last game of the group stages. So far Only brazil maintained Supremacy of the most hot favorite 3 teams which are Germany, Argentina and Brazil. Teams like Belgium, Spain, Croatia, England, France and Uruguay are the other big teams that have qualified to the Knockout Phase. Group Champions all of them in their respected groups except for England who were beaten by Belgium in the final game by the single goal of Adnan Januzaj. Japan is the only Asian team to progress in the world cup who will be facing the formidable Belgium in the round of 16. The host Russia also qualified and will face Spain in the Knockouts.

Top scorer of the tournament so far are Harry Kane and Romelo Lukaku with 5 goals each. Following them is Cristiano Ronaldo with 4 goals who could have easily made it 5 but he missed his chance by
missing his penalty against Iran. Lionel Messi hasn’t been the most brightest in the world cup only scoring one goal in the whole tournament.
